So this is a really cool site I think our anime fans would appreciate. I've been using it for a while (forgot my old login though so had to make a new one) and find it to be a very useful and fun tool. Basically, it lets you list all the anime and manga you have watched or are watching or planning to watch. You can also look at other people's lists and compare your tastes which is cool. Make one, compare your tastes with other people, and just organize your lists because god DAMN am I trying to get activity. If you make one you should post it here for others to see/compare.

As the new
ruler leader of the anime section I figured I'd do something important. It's also come to my attention that a lot of people don't actually know too many quality sites to get anime so I'm going to compile a list of some of the sites I use. I'm not going to list any sites like leetanime for reasons I will explain at the bottom. Note that none of these files are hosted on GIS and if you like any of the series support the creators by buying dvds, manga volumes, or other merchandise such as figurines.
Anime torrents:
http://www.bakabt.com/ - Great for old and hard to find stuff. They have retarded high standards so a lot of their stuff is high quality and almost all of their torrents will max out your internet. They only do batches so they don't have single episodes. Also don't have anything licensed by Funi.
http://tokyotosho.info/ or
http://www2.tokyotosho.info/ - Best for new stuff. Also good for music, games, doujins, and other stuff. If one is down try the other.
http://www.nyaatorrents.org/ - Popular tracker. A lot of groups host their releases off here so it's fast updating but not good for old stuff since no one seeds. Also has shit search.
http://www.google.com/ - No really, if it's not at any of those sites (licensed by Funimation) it's somewhere out on the internet. Just do a google search with *series name* torrent or something and you'll find it.
Anime Streaming:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/ - The largest legit anime streaming site (they actually license and translate the series themselves). Some of their subs are debatable quality, but if you're streaming you probably don't care about quality anyway.
http://www4.funimation.com/video/? - Funimation's streaming site. Has a lot of Funi series (duh) in both sub and dub at decent quality. Even has some entire series on there like Baccano!
http://www.hulu.com/ - Has a surprising amount of anime. Funi uploads a lot of their series there and has some other stuff like the entire Fist of the North Star.
http://www.youtube.com/ - Also has a surprising amount of anime, and since so many people upload you can even have a choice of sub groups or dub, though it's subject to being taken down. A lot of stuff is also up in HQ or even "youtube HD" which is probably the best streaming quality out there aside from crunchyroll's pay services, though audio is still lacking.
Have some examples.Manga:
http://manga.bleachexile.com/ - Best site for quality online scans. Their selection isn't as wide as others though they do have most of the popular stuff, and unlike most sites they keep original quality of the scan during upload and they actually care about quality of scan and translation. Compare this Negima scan from
bleachexile to
onemanga and see for yourself. Also since they have less series they can keep track of them better and update faster.
http://www.mangafox.com/ - Like onemanga but without the suck, a real search engine, and 5x more series. Better in every way than onemanga including ads and getting viruses if you're retarded. One of the largest online selections of series I've found.
http://stoptazmo.com/downloads/manga_series.php - Best ddl site I've come across. Have probably everything ever translated.
Translation news/updates:
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=main - Info about sub groups and translation progress. Good for finding the best group that subbed a series.
http://baka-updates.com/releases - Like a harder to use but better anidb. Has a better search.
Sub groups of note:
Misc:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ - General news and the best database for anime and manga as a whole.
http://myanimelist.net/panel.php - Really cool site. Let's you make a list of anime and manga you've watched, are watching, or plan to watch and score them and show it to people. Your score even gets compiled into the overall score and it ranks a series by popularity, rating, and such. Has a lot of reviews, but like any site like this there's bound to be some retarded reviewers.
http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/ - Largest online anime store (LOL BUYING ANIME) and has some good prices and weekly sales of 33% off an entire company's products, as well as other great sales off other stuff.
*I mentioned I hate most streaming sites like leetanime, and there are multiple reasons:
- The piss poor quality they have; if you want to stream something new, watch it on youtube or even crunchyroll or Funi, since they at least have half way decent quality.
- A lot of them display the video in a small fullscreen window, and since almost all newly aired anime is widescreen they either reencode the video into smooshed ass or more than half the screen will be huge black bars
- They use the first subs they can get their hands on which is usually Chinese translation subs, and since it's already been translated once, you lose a lot of the meaning and literalness when it's translated twice over, and since they know their quality is already poor they don't care about updating once a better translation comes out.
- You have to use whatever font for the subs they decide, and since the video is so much smaller and poor quality they can't use whatever font looks good on a high res vid so they blow up the font to where it's half the vid and force it to stand out in big blocky font. Bonus: if you download, most quality groups use soft subs which allow you to change the sub font to however you like.
- Audio quality is arguably more laughable than video quality since a large part of the vid is usually audio, and since they want to keep the file as small as possible they cut it the easiest way possible regardless of quality.
- The people who run those streaming sites are bad people who should feel bad. They make money off of add supported sites in an industry that is majorly hurting and are arguably the biggest reason for this. If you care about quality then you have no choice but to torrent but if you stream there are quite a few options.
If you have any suggestions or if I left off any obvious sites please tell me and I'll see if they're worth adding to the list. I'm sure I forgot some too (I had most of this typed up last night and my power went out so I had to do most of this by memory).

Just doing my job nobody cares about

I think this will be a pretty good season. I started liking last season and picked up a bunch of stuff, then I just stopped caring about a lot of it until I'm really not excited to continue any series except Sengoku Basara, but I think this season will have a lot more staying power with a few good sequels, a lot of good adaptations, and just a lot more series period than last season. Series I am excited for and/or are worth looking out for:
Panty and Stocking - fucking Gainax + batshit crazy; pretty much THE show of the season
Iron Man - I personally am going to wait for this to be dubbed (I think it's going to be shown on G4 in the winter or sometime around then) but the trailer looked awesome
Kuragehime - not my usual deal or what I'd expect from them but I haven't seen a Brains Base adaptation I haven't liked
Arakawa 2 - I liked the first season, especially towards the end of the season and although I don't think it needs a second season before a lot of other Shaft shows I'm still excited for it
Soredemo Machi - fuck yeah two SHAFT shows
The World God Only Knows - I know a lot of people who are hyped for this and it has that potential to be awesomely batshit like Welcome to the NHK
Index 2 - one of the novels it's supposed to be adapting has Koroko as the main character which is all I needed to know, though I wouldn't be surprised if they saved it for Railgun s2
My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute - I am a whore for this kind of thing
Super Robot Wars OG - it's super robots and they're warring; this will replace Sengoku Basara as my brain's weekly testosterone injection

So I just finished up all the iterations of Darker than Black and I'm looking for something new to watch in my spare time while waiting for my generic animes to come up with new episodes every week. To help you help me, I'll try to be specific with what I am/am not looking for.
1: Preferably something that's already finished or has a lot of episodes, rather than one more show to get me curious and leave me waiting for a new episode once a week, unless you feel it's something realllly remarkable.
2: What I liked: Ghost in the Shell, the original Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece, Baccano! or something, Neon Genesis Evangelion, first season(?) of Death Note, Great Teacher Onizaku, Rurouni Kenshin, and for sure Cowboy Bebop (mostly the earlier half+movie though).
3: What I haven't really liked as much: that one 'Star' show with blue-haired girl, second season of Death Note, LaLouche of the rebellion (forgot the name. Liked it, but too story-driven and fast-paced), various Gundam things I've watched.
Trends: I'm looking for something that doesn't take itself too seriously without being a complete joke. Mysterious 'End of the World'-ish scenerios like those in NGE and Darker than Black are great, if only they were explored just a little more than as a vague backstory. More laid-back characters are greatly preferred to ones so focused on their story that no other part of their existence is acknowledged, unless the story is worthy of the attention like NGE. Generally Mechs don't work too well for me, and powers pulled completely 'out the ass can be hard to get into.

Can it go back to being 2009 yet? Sure Winter 2010 wasn't that bad, and I bash 2009 like no one's business but at least 2009 seemed like it tried and sucked while this doesn't even look like it was trying. I can't I really care about anything here, though it's not to say something couldn't pull off a surprise. Anyway, here's what I'm "looking forward to" (in order from most apathetic to I hate this less than the fact there is a K-on season 2):
Arakawa Under the Bridge
(taken from an MSN log this morning)
QUOTE
John says:
Shaft is a good animation company, most of their series are good
Plus you know
Guy has a STAR FOR A HEAD
WHAT'S THAT SHIT ABOUT HUH GOTTA WATCH TO FIND OUT
Iron Man - I didn't even know this was supposed to be a series (thought it was a single OVA). Apparently Tony Stark is Japanese in this, which is p. dumb but the trailer for it looks surprisingly good. Hopefully they keep in Tony's alcoholism and beating of women.
Black Rock Shooter - It's an anime based off a music video for a vocal synthesizer. I don't feel I should have to explain myself.
Kiss x Sis - I never had a sister so it's okay for me to watch this.
Gundam Unicorn - I haven't ever liked a Gundam with the exception of G Gundam, and I only really liked it for how
stupid ridiculous awesome it was. Still, with a name like Gundam Unicorn and a FABULOUS looking main char what could go wrong!
Yutori-chan - I usually hate series like this but those colors are like watching a bag of cotton candy. Helps that I think the eps are going to be like two minutes each and no one will probably sub it anyway.
Super Street Fighter 4 - OH SHIT STREET FIGHTER. No really, with the exception of that one movie SF adaptations have always sucked, and this one looks heavy on story (which hint, no one cares about the story in a fighting game). Still, I am a SF fag so I will watch.
Will do the series I hate the most (measured from how much I hate that there is a K-on season 2 and less) after I actually get sleep.

Is p. dope so far. I've only seen four shows so far and only liked three but I'm pretty sure that's more than I liked all last year. I'm sticking it safe this season since most of the shows I like are related to a personal favorite so far. I'm interested in what you guys are going to watch this season. I'm bored so I'll give my impressions below and update when I watch more; feel free to do the same:
Dulalala!! - or as I call it DURRRR!! was probably my most looked forward to show this season. As you know from my
confessed love of Baccano! I am an Xbox sized fan of it and this is pretty much a spiritual successor. The original light novels are by the same author and animation is done by the same team who animated Baccano! so it's similar. It has a big cast (which is harder to keep track of due in part to the Japanese names but mostly because gg needs to learn when to use first name and when to use family name), a cool art style (really similar to Baccano!) and cooler jazz soundtrack. Art style and animation quality are two different things though and while it may grow on me, the fact that everyone except the main characters are just grey faceless background filler is lame. Hopefully this is fixed in the DVD releases. I definitely recommend it though, and suspect like Baccano! that it will get better as it goes on. Has scythes.
Hidden God - Japanese name is Ookamikakushi or something, idk it's confusing and has a lot of o's. The original visual novel was written by Ryukishi07 who wrote the Higurashi and Umineko visual novels which I am such a huge fan of that I get a boner just making theories about Umineko's murders. First thing I noticed about this though was that it was a little TOO similar to Higurashi, but I'm willing to give it time to branch out on it's own. I don't have any basis to go off of for the source material but the fact that this isn't animated by DEEN (who made the excellent to passable Higurashi anime but also made the Umineko anime that is such a horrible adaptation that it's decried by fans as not existing) is a good omen, but time will only tell if it turns out any good. Still, it's off to a good start with a tsundere loli little sister in a wheel chair. Recommended if you're into this kind of thing. Also has scythes.
Legend of Koizumi - Oh god this is the best thing I have ever seen. It's about the serious irl ambassador of Japan, who looks like Kenshiro from FotNS who within the first ten seconds takes sniper fire from terrorits and flies a fucking helicopter while he's STILL bleeding to play high stakes Mahjong (the way cooler than real life way negotiations are done) on a boat in the middle of the fucking ocean with George Bush and Vladmir Putin. If that doesn't blow your mind then he flies a plane straight at a fucking nuke to stop it. It's an unreleased OVA and only the first 7 minutes are out so far but the DVD will be released in February.
This is the best thing so far and you need to watch it. Not technically part of the season so not obligated to have scythes; still probably will.
Chu-bra - idk why I even bothered to download this. Pat said about wanting to watch it so I followed. It's about a middle schooler's panties or some shit. I think I developed a brain tumor somewhere around the time the middle schooler tripped in the auditorium and everyone saw her black laced panties through when the entire class conspired she was a hooker. Pat seems to like it which definitely says something about him. Didn't watch all the way through but probably had scythes.
AkiSora - I'm not even going to tell you guys what this is. I explained more of Chu-bra than this so think of that as a warning. Look it up if you insist. Just an OVA of laughable quality so doesn't have scythes. Also I have read every translated chapter of this manga so far before this OVA was announced...
Ladies vs Butlers - I'm pretty sure that due to the extreme tsundere and twin tail levels that I'm contractually obliged to watch this series. I have to say that while I had no expectations for this series, it surprised me more than probably anything else so far. Plot is practically non-existent but passable. Basically it's about a guy who attends a school for maids and butlers that also has rich bitches who they use to train on or something? Seems like fairly basic harem stuff so far, but in a world where Love Hina can be considered a "classic" I have to say this series had a pretty decent execution. Part of my surprise probably comes from the fact that the male lead doesn't look like he's going to be some meek, spineless, terrible protagonist like every other harem protagonist (except Makoto from School Days, but most people on Vent know how that ended). Honestly with a decent so far cast, quirky enough to have me intrigued story, good humor, and what looks to just be an all around promising start I can say that the only thing I don't like about it so far is the amount of fan service (I don't mind panty shots in a series like this but too much nudity for the sake of pandering). All in all, it was stupid, tasteless, and I loved it. No scythes but has glorious, glorious drill tails.
Qwazer of Stigmata -

Also has scythes.
I'll probably update this as I watch more and am interested in what you guys are watching. I'm still waiting for Dance in the Vampire Bundt (has naked vampire lolis and scythes) and possibly Quaser of Stigmata (once again Pat convinced me to get hyped for this, sounds dumb as shit which is a recurring trend for Pat so I know I'll hate it, also going to give this benefit of the doubt and assume it has scythes), as well as other stuff that probably has scythes. All in all I have to say that even for my cynical taste this is a surprisingly good season and hopefully leads way for more stuff in the future that isn't all moebullshit.

Well I've only watched a couple of the shows this season cause most of them are complete bogus or just fail so bad i couldn't finish episode 1. So far I've gotten into Darker Than Black:Season 2, Fairy Tail, Armed Librarians, Letter Bee and Trapeze. Other than that I couldn't stand the crap that they are flooding in. Kampfer is complete garbage. Queens Blade is pretty much Hentai for kids. and Nyan Koi! is about people around a guy becoming cats. So its all just a bit retarded. So far my favorite right now is Fairy Tail which revolves around Natsu, Lucy, Happy and a few others. Natsu is a wizard that used ancient Dragon Slayer Magic taught to him by a dragon he was raised by. Lucy is a Celestial Wizard that uses keys to summon Celestial Spirits into the world. And well Happy, he's just a crazy talking cat person so that makes him hilarious.
Anyway what has everyone else been watching so far this season. And I should note enjoy this season while you can. The next one has about one maybe two decent shows in it. None of them seem all that exciting.

This is what we have so far for this winter's anime season. I'm definitely not impressed by what I am seeing. Pretty much a bunch of kiddie shows and some Lolicon shows for the guys obsessed with middle school girls.

What I am most looking forward to is Durarara!! because it is from the creators of Baccano which is by far one of the greatest animes ever made.
But seriously an anime about middle school girls and an underwear club...WTF are people thinking of these days. Man there are way to many perverted people in Japan

http://www.animefreak.tvIf for example your introduction to anime was Adult Swim or such, you can find pretty much all of that stuff dubbed in English there (and the dubs are pretty good in my opinion), as well as plenty of other shows with subs, and so on. The best part is the vids are never taken down, the series are complete and easily accessable, and none of the ads try to install spyware/viruses on your computer.

Let's face it, this anime season sucks hard. Why not take the time to catch up with a (not so) old classic. Baccano! is the series that whenever someone asks me for a recommendation this is the first thing that springs to my mind. It's got comedy, action, a great original plot for an anime, and some of the best characters in a series ever (which says a lot since almost the entire cast is comprised of criminals, murderers, and just no good people), so there's something for everyone. Here's the best plot description I can find, taken from anime-source.com:
QUOTE
Synopsis :
Baccano! is an action-packed murder mystery of the 1930s in America which involves a pair of insane -yet highly succesful- serial robbers, civil war in the mafia, blood-thirsty cults dressed in white, immortals from the 1700s, and above all, alchemists. Whether taking place in the gold mines of California or the mafia-infested New York, aboard the haunted Flying Pussyfoot in 1932 or a lonely ship at sea in 1711, this fast-paced series links countless characters and a myriad of plots simultaneously under the single name of Baccano, an Italian word meaning "ruckus". Presented in no particular order, nevertheless chronologically, Baccano! leaves the viewers to put this story together themselves.
It's hard to describe the story without spoiling, but there's something there for everyone in my opinion. It takes place in the early 1900s America, and has one of the most fitting and best dubs of all time to go along with it. Everyone I've recommended it to so far has loved it, so everyone else should watch it and love it too!
Series can be downloaded at the link below or watched on Funimation website:
Torrent (updated with actually working torrent)(Dub only for first two eps on Funi page, rest is subbed. I recommend dling it and watching the dub even if you think you prefer subs, because it is that good. Also streaming is lame).

Been a little too busy being banned to post this, but if anyone was curious or even cares about what you'll be waiting to watch each week come Fall, take your pick here.
My first reaction to this was that the entire list was shit, with nothing catching my eye, but looking it over again, more in depth this time, there is stuff that could turn out decent enough to look into. Trapeze is by awesome people and the plot is twisted enough that if done right could be good, so I'll at least make it an effort to follow this one. Railgun maybe after I finally get around to watching Index, and that is granted I even like Index. Fairy Tail is a decent shonen, but I don't really feel like investing the time into another endless shonen (it's the reason I dropped the manga). Last point of interest is Kampfer, which has traps, guns, boobs, and all sorts of good stuff, but will probably be too shallow for me to watch the whole thing. Other than that, it's a lot of moe shit and Inuyasha, all of which is needed as bad as a prostate exam.
So yeah, my negativity aside, anyone interested in anything? Discuss this stuff, because we need more posts in this section of the forums.

I think it's about time I threw something into this forum, so here goes:What anime(s) are you watching nowadays? What sites/means do you use to acquire your new/old anime? Are you a streamer or a downloader? Feel free to let all of it out man, for here you can discuss all the interesting tidbits or best animes you've watched that makes you either the casual anime fan or a hardcore freak. I'll start it all out with the newest animes I'm watching:
1:Eden of The East
Eden's Wiki Page Probably the second strangest anime I've ever watched. But I suppose that's just me. Anyways, it centers around Akira(sounds familiar...) Takizawa in the not-too-distant future when Tokyo had been bombed by a series of missiles called Careless Monday. Akira is a main player in this event as he's part of a select group of people that have been chosen to save Japan. Only problem is, he's lost all his memory. It's a funny, quirky, random story that somehow comes together to make a little bit of sense so far, but only time can tell if this anime will go anywhere. Still though, it's worth the watch so far.
2:Pandora Hearts
Ain't going to add the Wikipage as it gives too much story away. Let's just say it's a manga owned by Square Enix.
Best anime I've watched in a long time to tell you the truth. It has hints of just being a variation of so many stories, but actually comes across as more unique than most stories based upon times before the 1900s. I mean, most of them are samurais it seems. But that's besides the point. It's a fast-paced, action oriented mindtrip of an anime that will have you scratching your head every episode. It's also funny. I highly recommend it if your into that kind of thing.
So far that's it this year. I'll probably try out a few new animes soon, but I'd like some recommendations of course. Oh, and if your wondering, I stream from
AnimeCrazy.com. Sure, it has a few ads, but it's fairly well put together and has a collection of old and new anime alike(licensed and unlicensed). I highly recommend a popup blocker at all times har har har.

Anything anyone is considering looking into? I'll definitely be following Umineko and Zetsubou Sensei (which I just recently got around to watching the first two seasons of, it's absolutely hilarious) and will probably follow Spice and Wolf. All in all, this is looking like a pretty good season and has some stuff that could turn out to be decent surprises.
Also the description for Ukkari Penelope is just plain amazing. If it weren't a kiddy show it'd probably win awards just off of it's premise alone.

Well last night I was bored to the point I was ready to walk to the city... which is about an hour of highway driving. Instead I started watching Bleach because I've heard a lot of people talk about it, and am watching episode 6 right now (season 1). Just wondering if anyone knows a website where I may stream the episodes in English, instead of finding parts on www.Youtube.com/ or other random sites.
