Anyone else like this album? I've gotta say.. I wasn't a fan really at all until this album. John is almost guaranteed to call me a fag for this post, so everyone but John is allowed to post here.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT WAS THE BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!!! I was literally 5 rows from the front and couldn't hear shit other than the band and it was AMAZING. It was at a festival down here in AL and they were only supposed to be on for about an hour but they were there for closer to two, Everything about it was amazing including the setlist:
Three songs off the new album to start with including Check My Brain. They were good but I don't know all the names to them
Them Bones (with the audience singing along to the chorus)
Dam That River (I officially went fucking berserk here; the one song I wanted them to play above all other [that actually had a chance of being played live])
Man in the Box (entire audience sang along to the entire song)
Angry Chair (took my berserk status to a whole new level every time they played the bride)
Dirt
Rain When I Die
Your Decision (dedicated it to Layne)
Probably forgetting some stuff there, but it was so fucking amazing it's forgiven. I was going to be pissed though because they left off two of their biggest songs but we eventually got them to play the best fucking encore of all time
Would? (ENTIRE FUCKING AUDIENCE FLIPPED)
Rooster (I'm insulted that this wasn't part of the main set but the played it and it was glorious. Entire audience sang along to both songs)
It just feels unreal because this is one of those bands that I NEVER thought I would EVER get to see, but I can't see them possibly being a bit worse now than they were 20 years ago (hell I think they were better tonight than their live album at their peak). DuVall is an amazing vocalist and a more than worthy successor to Layne. Anyway, this has been my exhausted post and I'll probably fix some stuff when I wake up. If you ever get to see them though FUCKING DO IT SON!
Next up is SOUNDGARDEN. Tour announcement and dates fucking WHERE?
Don't know if anyone cares enough about music or their local record store (or even if they know where their local record store is) to celebrate this glorious, glorious day. Basically, on this day a shit ton of special releases are sold at independent record stores, usually in small quantities and only on this day. Tons of big as well as small bands participate with some awesome releases, usually on awesome colored vinyl. Here's the list of releases announced so far: http://www.recordstoreday.com/templates/St...SES_WEBSITE.pdf
If there's anything you're interested in it's good to check what your store is going to get (I'm going to check mine on Monday since I was busy today). In my magical world where my record store gets in whatever I want it'd get EVOL, The Moon and Antarctica, Feel Good Hit of the Summer EP, and the Soundgarden 7". Also planning to look into the Pavement LP (already dled the cd but it was a great compilation), Yeah Yeah Yeah's 7", the MGMT release, and the Them Crooked Vultures single, as well as anything with an awesome cover because fuck yeah judging something by the cover and discovering new music.
Look over the list and see if there's anything you're interested in. There's a list of stores that participate so check it and go out and support your awesome local record store and be a cool guy.
Stoned naked lolis riding on those tree dudes from Lord of the Rings. Helps that what's inside the cover is fucking awesome too (best comeback from a band EVER). I'll give someone an awesome point if they can show me a better album cover.
So I noticed that a lot of my favorite rap songs are when a rapper uses a cool non hip hop song/beat as their base. So here are a few of my favorites you might enjoy.
This first one is called "1997" By XV. I'm sure you all will recognize the original song which is "1979" By the Smashing Pumpkins.
This song is called "Sing For The Moment" By Eminem. The original song is "Dream On" By Aerosmith.
This song is called "The Prayer" By Kid Cudi. The original song is "The Funeral" By Band of Horses.
The last one I can think of at the moment is "Fire" By Lupe Fiaso. The original song is also "Fire" By Jimi Hendrix.
Enjoy and tell me what you think other than "I hate rap." or "Rap sucks.".
Anyone feel up for the job? ( looking for someone who, isn't already a mod, has a broad taste in music, is not bias, and enjoys sharing what they enjoy. )
Spent 4 hours going through all my folders and finally finished organizing most of my music by artist (honestly I thought I had more so I probably put it somewhere I forgot). I didn't do my anime music or most of my other weeaboo shit (some slipped in there) because I don't want it coming up if I choose to make a playlist out of all my music. I'll probably organize it by genre tomorrow and start tagging it properly (music was obtained from many different sources so most have different tagging schemes). Since I'm feeling triumphant in my accomplishment, if anyone wants or is interested in anything I have (I have whole or partial discographies of most of those artists in FLAC, and even some rarities, lives, and bootlegs of personal favorites) I'll upload it for them.
Also, give me recommendations for anything I'm missing and I'll either look into it or (most likely) shoot it down for not being good enough for my taste. My favorite genres are grunge, alternative, shoegaze, and drone but I'm willing to reject all types that aren't cookie monster metal.
Here's my attempt to post something more than just a place for John to troll. They've got some good music. A bio:

Wolfmother are an Australian hard rock band that formed in Erskineville, Sydney in 2000. Originally a trio comprising vocalist and guitarist Andrew Stockdale, bassist and keyboardist Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett, the band released their debut self-titled album in October 2005, which reached number three on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. The album was also a critical success, winning the 2005 J Award and 2006 ARIA Awards for Best Breakthrough Album and Best Rock Album. "Woman", a single from the album, won the band their first Grammy Award, for Best Hard Rock Performance, in 2007.
In August 2008, co-founding members Ross and Heskett left the band due to "irreconcilable personal and musical differences," after which Stockdale vowed to continue using the Wolfmother moniker with new members in the future. After a brief hiatus, Stockdale returned with a new four-piece band in January 2009 featuring bassist and keyboardist Ian Peres, rhythm guitarist Aidan Nemeth and drummer Dave Atkins. The new lineup's first album (entitled Cosmic Egg) was released on 23 October 2009.
As some of you may or may not know Jimmy Sullivan was the drummer for Avenged Sevenfold. He died yesterday at his house, cause of death yet to be determined.
So, to redeem myself for that last post, I decided to post a different one.

As I Lay Dying is a christian metalcore band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2001, the band's line-up consists of vocalist Tim Lambesis, drummer Jordan Mancino, lead guitarist Nick Hipa, rhythm guitarist Phil Sgrosso, and bassist Josh Gilbert.
This one is much heavier. It isn't (I wouldn't say, anyway) really a Christian band. It's a bit of an acquired taste. Here are your examples:
So someone needs to make up for that MCR shit posted earlier and get it off the front page, so it might as well be me. As opposed to MCR which even it's name is bad, Godspeed You! Black Emperor starts awesome with the name and is so amazing it wants to punch you in the face and get your sister pregnant (and you will gladly let it). Their music can best be described as an orgasm for the senses, but a more specific description would be:
QUOTE
The band took its name from God Speed You! Black Emperor, a 1976 Japanese black-and-white documentary by director Mitsuo Yanagimachi, which follows the exploits of a Japanese biker gang, the Black Emperors. The band is most commonly classified as post-rock, but they exhibit influences from a range of styles including progressive rock, punk, classical music and avant-garde. Each record consists of a few fairly long tracks (mostly between 15 and 25 minutes, but some as long as 29 minutes and some as short as 6), divided into "movements" which are sometimes specified in the record sleeve.
Efrim Menuck, Mike Moya and Mauro Pezzente formed the band around 1994 but its lineup has changed frequently. The band has had as many as twenty members at one time, but has tended to settle down to a group of nine. The instruments played vary with the lineup, but the music tends to be based around electric and bass guitars, strings and a percussion section. Other instruments such as the glockenspiel and the French horn make more occasional appearances. The music on some of their records is accompanied by spoken samples recorded by the band across North America, including an apocalyptic street preacher from Providence, Rhode Island, an announcement at a gas station, a group of children talking and singing in French, as well as many recordings taken off shortwave radio.
I can't recommend these guys enough and I blew out their entire discography in a single day. I'll post some youtube links to one of my favorite songs by them off my favorite album, which to me is their best and most accessible work for starting out. The song is over 22 minutes so it had to be split into several parts to fit on youtube. Imo you can't get an accurate approximation of how great sounding this is with shitty youtube quality but it still sounds pretty dope. At least listen half way through the second part before casting judgement:
Download links will be provided if they are requested.

This shit is fucking awesome, and possibly album of the year material for me. Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age on guitar/lead vocals, Dave Grohl, frontman of Foo Fighters and drummer from Nirvana on drums, and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin on bass. Their first album doesn't come out until November 17th but since it got leaked early they decided to upload the entire thing to their Youtube channel. Honestly, this is some of the BEST stuff I have heard in a while and I don't think there's a single track on the album I don't love. It surprises me that it doesn't really sound too much like any of these guys' established sounds and each track is unique and fresh, so I'd recommend it for fans and non-fans alike. For anyone interested here's their Youtube channel:
No one fucking discusses music on these forums. As a huge music fan it makes me sad, so let me recommend you something amazing. This is my favorite album of music ever put together and released.
In the Aeroplane over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
I was going to write up some deep, moving personal review of this album, but I just couldn't put it in words. If you need convincing just look at some reviews online or on the wikipedia page. This album has never left my CD player in years since I first heard it, and I doubt more than a day goes by that I don't listen to at least one song from it. It may take more than one listen to acquire a true taste for it, but this is a truly amazing album that transcends just music and lyrics and becomes more about an experience. If you haven't ever heard it at least give it a chance.
