It's not that bad. Biomass could mean anything, from a person it slaughters in a battle, to a lily-flower.

I did read this yesterday. While it is interesting, it does open many questions. What's to stop one of these things from eating live things instead of dead. From the sounds of it, there isn't really any AI, so how does it differentiate. If it's a weapons platform, then live things could quickly become dead things and then fuel. I love my machines as much as the next guy, but sometimes we just rely on things to much, and when we do that, we begin to give them to much power that we may or may not be able to control (sorry about the run on, but it fit).

Not that I see a terminator or anything like that on the horizon, but.......I'm just saying.

I don't see a point in it really. I mean, oil is the byproduct of dead bodies and dinosaurs and what have you. I just don't think it's viable either, as there really is no need to build a machine that'd turn a beautiful landscape into entire ruin. Not only would it cost quite a bit to build and effectively fuel, what in god's name would they use it on? I mean, your in the freaking Middle East. All that's there is people, oil, and opium. I highly doubt any machine can eat sand and fuel itself.

but if this is true and they start using it, along with other robotic machines, I believe Obama should cut all spending to all new war machine projects. There is no need for a robotic war or artificial intelligence in a world that has too many people and too few uses for them.

Given the state of the world today, I think he would have been supremely derilict in his duties to have done otherwise. The defense budget encompasses far more than just military money.

What I would like to see cut is some of our space program.

The part where you said "There is no need for a robotic war or artificial intelligence in a world that has too many people and too few uses for them" is wrong as long as the person is fit to work we can use them... we all deserve to live as much as anyone else 'war free". Forgive me if I'm taking you to seriously.

Not that I'm advocating for a Termintor style robotic war

If this thing can run on twigs and grass clippings like they say it can then why can't they figure out how to make my car run on grass clippings. Save millions of Americans money on gas then we can buy houses and fun toys to play with.

If you read some of the attached articals it runs off electricity generated by hot water heated by combustibles like twigs and grass etc... I don't see this as scary but wtf? We need this technology to power cars or adapt it to help power houses.. imagine being able to use your combustible trash to help power you house or charge your car? Reduce land fills and generate cleaner energy?

But no sense we're so smart we're going to use it as a support vehicle for combat units... typical america.

Well the story has been revised since the original post and yes is none too scary. But had at first said that these things would eat any bio mas including flesh which 1) could have been a really nasty way to die or be disposed of post mortem and 2) would have been the first time I gave any credance to the idea of the machines rising up and taking over the planet.

It says that it could run off meat.. flesh.. but its design to differentiate between the different types of potential fuel.. and is obviously designed to not use flesh. Or at least that's what they tell us?!?
